Plymouth Corporation Tramways

When the “three towns” became the City of Plymouth in 1914, the tramways all came under Plymouth Corporation. The scout went to see the former tram depot at Milehouse in 2014.

At its height, the network extended to 17½ miles.

May, 2025: Eighty years after the last tram returned to the depot, Plymouth Citybus acquired 50 battery-electric double deckers. These and possibly more, if all 300 buses in the fleet are replaced, will be shedded and charged at a new facility on the site of the former tram depot.

Electric trams used power direct from the generator and did not have to carry around a heavy battery
