Very nearly a year since the scout followed the Princetown Branch, he returned to the moorland outpost with the same camping guest, who booked a 1040 arrival.
They both set off towards North Hessary Tor.
The scout’s guest took great strides in the direction of Great Mis Tor, while he pushed and carried his bike down to the former branch railway. Once back on the track, he was soon at the site of King Tor Halt, where he had decided the year before to leave an exploration of Foggintor for another day.
Granite for the construction of the prison came from this area but the quarry was not properly started until 1820. At its peak, the population was 183. The quarry was abandoned at the turn of the century but extraction continued at Swell Tor.

“A Brief Journey” – a sailor’s run ashore in 1954 to Plymouth, Dartmoor and Looe, includes a journey on the train to King Tor Halt.
